Introduction of Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) by Maersk and How It Affects Your Shipping Costs

As the new member of the team here at Slinkert & Aarøe Logistics Advice, it is my pleasure to introduce myself and inform you about important changes in the logistics industry that may affect your shipping costs. With direct contacts to major carriers and a background in sea freight, I am here to enhance Slinkert’s consultancy services in international logistics and ensure that our clients are always one step ahead.

Maersk, one of the leading players in the market, has recently introduced a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on several trade routes, including a fee of 1500 USD per 40’ container for imports from China to Denmark. Read more here.

Historically, Maersk has been among the first to implement such surcharges, often leading other carriers to follow suit. This could indicate a trend that we are likely to see from other carriers soon.

We understand that such changes can create uncertainty around the planning and costs of your shipments. Therefore, we would like to offer our expertise to analyze how this development will specifically affect your business and discuss possible steps you can take to minimize any negative impacts.

Here are some points we can consider together:

  1. Risk Assessment: Evaluating how PSS can impact your current shipping agreements.

  2. Contract Strategy: Exploring the possibility of entering short or long-term contracts with other carriers or forwarders that have not yet introduced PSS.

  3. Shipping Planning: Optimizing your shipping schedules to avoid the highest PSS periods.

We recently assisted a customer in the machinery industry with imports from China, ensuring they are best protected against current and upcoming price increases. This includes FCL & LCL shipments.

If you would like to discuss how these changes might affect your business or have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to our continued collaboration.
